General Precautions To be Taken
Since silk happens to be made of natural protein fibers, it’s important not to clean it with chlorine bleach as that could damage it irretrievably.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for drying purposes since that could cause extensive damage to silk fibers.
Alcohol can cause damage to your silk fabrics, which is why it’s crucial not to use alcohol-containing substances. Your hairspray and perfume need to dry properly before you dress.

Hand Washing Silk

Hand washing is the best way to clean silk fabrics. You can hand wash almost any kind of pure silk fabrics without any shrinkage, provided it has already been pre-shrunk before being sewn.
Add borax to your washing water if you’re using hard water.
We recommend using a non-alkaline, mild soap like baby shampoo or Ivory Liquid, along with lukewarm water.
While rinsing the fabric, add distilled white vinegar as well, to dissolve the soap residue and neutralize any traces of alkali. You can also add a hair conditioner for imbuing the fabric with extra silky texture.
Don’t use harsh detergents, which contain brighteners or bleaches.
Avoid soaking pure silk fabrics for more than 5 minutes.
Don’t twist or wring mulberry silk fabrics for extracting the water – roll it in a towel instead.

Machine Washing Silk
Hand washing silk is always the best option, even if the fabric has been labeled to be safe for machine washing.
Always ensure your colors have been separated.
If you’re using a top-loading washing machine, use mesh bags for added protection. You need not follow this step if you’re using a front-loading washing machine.
Always use the shortest washing spin cycle.
Don’t use brightener- or enzyme-containing detergents.
Mild detergents and Delicate Cycle are highly recommended for machine washing silk.

Silk Care: Ironing Silk
Use the cool iron setting to press your damp silk sleepwear inside out (The iron generally has this as a ‘Silk’ mode).
Using excess heat may burn, pucker, or dull pure silk fabrics.
Don’t wet the fabric locally since this could cause rings to form.
A lot of wrinkles in your silk fabric can be easily removed by simply hanging it in your bathroom while taking a shower. The humidity will iron everything out and remove most of the wrinkles.

Cleaning Silk: Wrinkle Removal Tips
You can eliminate minor wrinkles by hanging the sleepwear overnight.
You can eliminate stubborn wrinkles by using a cool iron set.
You can also hang the silk sleepwear inside the bathroom while you take a shower. Most wrinkles tend to get erased when you do this, thanks to high humidity levels.
